Katarína Kucbelová will present German translations of Čepiec / The Bonnet in Cologne and Stuttgart

Slovak author Katarína Kucbelová has accepted an invitation to literary presentations of the German translation of her book Čepiec / Die Haube / The Bonnet in two German cities. Readers and students will be able to meet her in person in Cologne and Stuttgart.

On Thursday 6 June at 7:30PM, a reading and discussion with the author about her book Čepiec, which was nominated for the Anasoft Litera Award in 2020, will take place at the Lecturer's Office of Slovak Language and Culture at the University of Cologne (Weyertal 137) under the guidance of lecturer Samuel Koruniak.

It was published in German as Die Haube — Impressionen aus einem Randgebiet, translated by Eva Profousova (Ink Press, 2023). Excerpts from both the German and the original Slovak will be read. The author will also read excerpts from her latest book, Modrosleposť / The Missing Color Blue (Slovart, 2023), which was selected as a finalist for this year's Anasoft Litera Award.

On the same day in the afternoon, a creative-writing workshop will be held for Slovak language students at the University of Cologne.

Partners of the event are the Slovak Literary Centre and the Honorary Consulate of the Slovak Republic in Dortmund.

On Saturday 8 June at 4:55PM Katarína Kucbelová will speak at the Literary House in Stuttgart, where the Wetterleuchten independent publishers' market will take place. More than 40 publishers will present their books, including the Swiss Ink Press and its head Susanne Schenzle, who discovered the The Bonnet for the German-language book market. There will be readings by 22 authors in total. The event will be held in English and German. Susanne Schenzle will be the host, and interpretation will be provided by Beatrice Faßbender.

The Slovak Literary Centre is a partner of the event.
