The international book fair Leipziger Buchmesse, which takes place this year 21-24 March, is the second largest literary event in Germany after the book fair in Frankfurt am Main.
While in Frankfurt the focus is primarily on professional audience, the Leipzig fair is aimed at readers and the general public. An integral part of the fair is Europe's largest reading festival Leipzig liest (Leipzig reads). Around 3,000 authors‘ readings will take place in approximately 350 locations across the city.
As part of the Leipzig Reads festival, Pavol Rankov will be presenting his book Der kleine Donaukrieg (The Holy Butcher of Shamorin and Other Stories from the Time of the Small Danube War) at the Leibniz Institute for the History and Culture of Eastern Europe (GWZO) on Thursday 21 March at 7:30PM. The event entitled "Slovak Perspectives: Pavol Rankov - The Small Danube War" will be moderated by historian Prof. Dr. Frank Hadler and interpreted by the translator of the novel, Dr. Slávka Rude-Porubská. The event is organized by the Honorary Consulate of Slovakia in Leipzig in cooperation with The Slovak Literary Centre, danube books publishing house and GWZO.

The second reading of Pavol Rankov in Leipzig will take place on Friday 22 March at 1PM directly in the exhibition area on the stage of Café Europa and is organized by The Slovak Literary Centre. The event entitled "All Just Fiction? The Small Danube War as a clear-sighted vision of a possible present" will be moderated by translator Mirko Kraetsch. He will discuss the process of translation with the translator of the novel, Dr. Slávka Rude-Porubská, who will also be interpreting.
As Mr. Kraetsch and Mrs. Rude-Porubská state in the annotation to the event, Rankov's political thriller is an apt and – although bitter – surprisingly humorous commentary on the various armed conflicts taking place today.

This year, authors from over 40 countries will be presented in Leipzig in five exhibition halls. Each year the event attracts more than 400 international exhibitors. The stand of the Slovak Literary Centre will be in Hall 4, E308. The fair focuses on a spectrum of genres – from fiction and specialized literature, children's books, and educational publications to travel books, and books on music or religion.
