Beata Balogová is a journalist who writes in Slovak, Hungarian and English. She was born in Lučenec and lives in Bratislava. A graduate of Columbia University in New York, where she studied journalism in 2006–2007, she has been the editor-in-chief of Sme, one of the biggest daily newspapers in Slovakia since 2014. She comments on politics and social affairs. In 2020, Beata was awarded the European Press Prize in the Opinion category. Her essay collection, A Book Full of People, was published in 2019. Three years later, her first novel, Cornelias, became available to readers. She is an active advocate for press freedom and the protection of journalists both at home and abroad. Polish, Serbian and Hungarian translations are underway.
