Ženy, ktoré zostali / The Women Who Stayed

Half-built houses, the faces of ever-more distant husbands on the displays of smartphones, and the everyday baking of bread, which is always the same regardless of whether it’s called chapati, tortilla or injera. Ženy, ktoré zostali (The Women Who Stayed), is an intimate collection of reports with original photographs taken by documentary photographer Noel Rojo.

This book looks at migration from an unusual point of view, focusing on the women who have remained in their countries. The book documents their everyday lives in Mexico, Senegal, Ethiopia and India, as well as in Romania and Slovakia. There, women and children have stayed who must go on living their lives in the face of global challenges which have caused their close ones to leave their homes. How is migration changing their lives?
