About institution

SLNIEČKOVO, o.z. is an independent publishing house of literature for children and young adults. It focuses on quality translations, and on valuable works by native authors. Its first storybook, Píšťalkár (The Piper), written by Erik Jakub Groch and illustrated by Jana Kiselová-Siteková, was published in 2007 and won the Ministry of Culture Award for illustrations. It was also selected for the IBBY Honour List 2007. Another book selected for the IBBY Honour list in 2021 was Daniela Lozanová's translation of Predajca šťastia (original title Il venditore di felicità – The Seller of Happiness) by David Cali. Other award-winning books by Slovak authors are Bola raz jedna láska (Once upon a time there was one love) by Valentín Šefčík (The Most Beautiful Books of Slovakia 2015) and Lara a Nebo (Lara and Heaven) written by Zbyňo Džadoň and illustrated by Jana Kalixová (The Most Beautiful Books of Slovakia 2017). The aim of the publishing house is to publish children’s books with both exceptional stories and illustrations, that teach children to perceive beauty, goodness and art.
